Ashington is a town in the county of Northumberland in the north east of England. The town is situated 15 miles north of Newcastle upon Tyne and is 3 miles away from the North Sea to the east.
The closest station servicing this town is Pegswood railway station which lies on the East Coast Main Line and is managed by Northern. Northern operates two southbound trains and one northbound train per day. Southbound services provide a commuter link to Newcastle Central and northbound from Pegswood to Widdrington, Acklington, Alnmouth and Chathill. There is a bus station at the end of the main shopping street, with local Arriva North East and Go North East buses linking to the rest of Northumberland and to Newcastle.
The town has many facilities such as a public library, leisure centre and a local museum at Woodhorn which is dedicated to the town’s mining history. Riverside Park provides a gorgeous peaceful riverside setting for long relaxing walks. There are also a selection of bars and restaurants in town.
