About Battersea, SW London

Battersea is a district in south west London, located in the London Borough of Wandsworth on the south bank of the River Thames, 2.9 miles south west of Charing Cross.

This area is serviced by Clapham Junction railway station which is the busiest station in Europe by the number of trains that use it each day with an average of more than 120 trains passing through every hour. This station funnels through many trains destined for London Waterloo and Victoria and acts as an interchange station for many, hence why it has become the busiest station in the UK. “There are a vast number of services that pass through this station including a 35 to London Waterloo and 22 to London Victoria every single hour. Southern and South Western Railway operate the majority of services to destinations within London as well as as far as Portsmouth Harbour to the south and Milton Keynes to the north. London Overground services also provide links to destinations in east London such as Highbury & Islington and Stratford on the West London Line.

Battersea is an emerging cultural hub in south west London and has seen a dramatic increase in the number of working individuals pouring in to the area due to it’s fantastic transport links and proximity to the City of London. There are several famous shopping spots in this area, including the New Covent Garden Market which is the largest wholesale fruit, vegetable and flower market in the UK and Northcote road which is a famous local shopping street with its own market and several boutiques and stores. Cultural attractions in the area include Battersea Arts Centre which is on the site of the old Town Hall and the 200-acre Battersea Park which features a zoo and the London Peace Pagoda. The iconic Battersea Power Station is currently going under a period of regeneration which will see it as a new mass entertainments and commercial complex as well as new offices for Apple and other firms as well as over 4,000 homes.

There are several job opportunities in the area including the newly opened American embassy in the neighbouring district of Nine elms and thousands of other work spaces in the surrounding areas and the City of London.
