Bilston is a small market town in the West Midlands and part of Wolverhampton.
The town is about 3 miles southeast of Wolverhampton, 5 miles southwest of Walsall and 13 miles north of Birmingham. The Black Country Route provides Bilston with good road links to Dudley and Walsall and the M6 by junction 10.
Since 1999 Bilston is served via tram on the Midland Metro Line 1, between Birmingham and Wolverhampton. The National Express West Midlands service 79 operates between West Bromwich and Wolverhampton, stopping at Bilston.
Wolverhampton is a city and metropolitan borough in the West Midlands.
The city is near several motorways, the M5, M6 and M54, connecting it Wales, London and Scotland.
Wolverhampton railway station is on the Birmingham Loop of the West Coast Main Line and is served by West Midlands Trains, CrossCountry, Virgin Trains and Transport for Wales. Virgin Trains operates trains to London Euston via Birmingham New Street, as well as trains to Glasgow Central and Edinburgh and Shrewsbury. CrossCountry operates trains to Manchester Piccadilly via Stoke-on-Trent, Birmingham New Street extending to Bristol Temple Meads, Exeter St Davids, Reading, Southampton Central and Bournemouth. Transport for Wales runs services to Pwllheli and Aberystwyth, Holyhead via Chester and Birmingham International.
The nearest major airport is Birmingham International Airport, about 25 miles away, offering direct flights to Amritsar, Delhi, Dubai, Orlando, Dublin, Paris and Munich to name a few. It can be reached easily via express train taking an average of 36 minutes.
Some of Wolverhampton’s attractions include Wightwick Manor and Moseley Old Hall, both owned by the National Trust, as well as the Royal Air Force Museum, Wolverhampton Art Gallery, Bantock House and Bilston Craft Gallery.
The Grand Theatre hosts a variety of musical shows, theatre, music and comedy shows for the whole family year-round. It also offers creative learning events as well as hospitality and event hire.
Wolverhampton is also home of the premier league football club Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux, Wolverhampton Racecourse at Dunstall Park, and greyhound racing at Monmore Green.
The University of Wolverhampton provides higher education in the city and attracts around 23,000 students per year, with its main campus in the city centre. There are some notably historic schools including Wolverhampton Grammar School, The Royal Wolverhampton School and Tettenhall College. Further education is provided by Wolverhampton College.
Wolverhampton’s largest employer is its City Council, providing jobs to more than 12,000 people. Other key employers are the NHS Trust, City of Wolverhampton College and the University of Wolverhampton. In other industries employers include the likes of Corus, Smiths Aerospace, Sunbeam, H S Marston, AJS, Kieft Cars and Guy Motors.
