Bracknell is a large town in Berkshire, England, the westernmost area within the Greater London Urban Area. It lies 11 miles (18 km) east of Reading, 9 miles (14 km) south of Maidenhead, 10 miles (16 km) southwest of Windsor and 34 miles (55 km) west of central London.
In recent years a third of Bracknell’s old town centre has been demolished and rebuilt and there has been massive investment in the underlying infrastructure including the Lexicon Shopping Centre transforming the town into a desirable place to live and work.
The Lexicon comprises 600,000 ft2 of new retail, a new 12-screen cinema, new restaurants and cafes, completely new paving and public realm and 1300 new parking spaces as well as improved access by public transport.
Bracknell now attracts shoppers from the affluent surrounding neighbourhoods in Berkshire and Surrey. The town saw visitor numbers of 16m in its first year and the town centre rose to 29 in the retail rankings (from 255).
Several high-tech giants have made Bracknell their home over the last 20 years including Vodafone, Hewlett Packard and Dell, consolidating the area’s reputation as the UK’s Silicon Valley and attracting a talented workforce. Honda, Waitrose and Panasonic also fuel the economy by serving as major local employers.
Swinley Forest, a vast 2,600 acre stretch of woodland with walking and biking trails, orienteering, segway or horse riding.
Windsor, Sunningdale, Reading and Wokingham are all easy to get to either by road or rail.
The town of Bracknell has two railway stations, Bracknell and Martins Heron, both of which are on the Waterloo to Reading Line. Bracknell is a commuter centre with its residents travelling in both directions (westwards to Reading and eastwards to London Waterloo).
London Heathrow Airport is 13 miles to the east of Bracknell, accessible by train from Bracknell Railway Station.
