About Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire

Carmarthen is the county town of Carmarthenshire in Wales on the River Towy. It lies around 30 miles north-west of Swansea and 31 miles north-east of Pembroke.

Carmarthen is well connected via road with the A40, A48, A484 and A485 all converging on the town. The A40 connects to London and Goodwick and the A48 connects Carmarthen to Highnam near Gloucester. The M4 motorway, connecting South Wales with London, is around 21 miles from Carmarthen, with junction 49 ending at Pont Abraham Services.

Carmarthen railway station is on the West Wales Line with regular services to Swansea, Cardiff Central, Crewe and Manchester Piccadilly. Great Western Railway also run a limited service to London Paddington.

Some of the local attractions include the Carmarthenshire Museum, Laugharne Castle, Carmarthen Castle and the British Bird of Prey Centre. Carmarthenshire also offers a lot of outdoor opportunities such as walking, hiking, cycling, exploring castles and stately homes, a walk along the Millennium Coastal Park, horse riding on the beach at Pendine Sands, days out at Pembrey Country Park, fishing, to name a few.

The centre of Carmarthen offers a number of shopping options at one of its shopping centres or the high street. There are also many speciality shops as well as art galleries.
