About Castleford, West Yorkshire

Castleford is a town within the City of Wakefield in West Yorkshire. It lies around 10 miles north-east of Wakefield, 3 miles north of Pontefract and 16 miles south-east of Leeds.

The M62 motorway runs south of the town with junction 32 only 1.5 miles from the town centre, connecting it to Liverpool and Hull. The A1(M) runs to the east of Castleford and can be accessed via the M62.

Castleford railway station is on the Hallam and Pontefract Lines, with regular services to Leeds, Sheffield via Barnsley, and Knottingley. The Glasshoughton area of Castleford is served by its own station which also lies on the Pontefract Line.

Some of the local attractions include Castleford Forum Library and Museum, Castleford Bridge, Diggerland and Phoenix Theatre. For outdoor lovers there are the Fryston Country Trails alongside the River Aire, the RSPB Fairburn Ings nature reserve or the Ferrybridge Golf Club. The Xscape Yorkshire leisure centre includes an indoor ski slope, a climbing wall, trampoline park, a cinema, as well as a number of eateries and restaurants.

The main shopping area in Castleford is the Carlton Shopping Lanes which is home to a number of well-known high street brands. The Junction 32 Shopping Outlet offers over 90 stores as well as coffee shops and restaurants.

Education in Castleford is provided by a number of primary schools, two secondary schools and a further and higher education college on the Castleford Campus of Wakefield College located in Glasshoughton.
