Cinderford is a small town on the eastern fringe of the Forest of Dean and is a commuter town to Gloucester which is around 14 miles to the east.
There are regular bus services from Cinderford to the nearby city of Gloucester. Gloucester is serviced by Gloucester railway station which is managed by Great Western Railway. Great Western Railway operates frequent train services to destinations such as London Paddington, Reading, Bristol and Cardiff Central. CrossCountry also has a line running from Cardiff to Nottingham, connecting this area to several destinations towards the north. The M5 motorway which runs east of the city links the southwest to the midlands.
Kings Square is a market square at the centre of town and connects the Kings Walk Shopping Centre with the Market Parade and The Oxbode. This area is known as the Kings Quarter and features a largely pedestrianised outdoor area. This area is filled with several high street favourites and small boutiques. In this area one will also find an array of bars and restaurants to cater for all of one’s dining needs. A short walk from this area is the newly built indoor Gloucester Quays Outlet which features high street and designer brands at discounted prices. There are multiple cultural attractions in the area also including Gloucester Cathedral and the museum of Gloucester.
Gloucester is historically known for its aerospace industry and is still home to Gloucester Aircraft Company and the GE Aviation Dowty Propellers plant and Messier-Dowty’s landing gear plants are on the outskirts of town. There are also job opportunities from large employers that have offices in town such as Ecclesiastical Insurance, Lloyds Banking, TSB Bank, EDF energy and many more.
This location could be ideal for young families seeking local educational options for their children. There are two primary schools in this town, Steam Mills Primary School and Forest View Primary school. The secondary school in town is The Forest High School, which is coeducational from 11-16.
