About Cramlington, Northumberland

Cramlington is a town in the county of Northumberland in the north east of England. It is situated on the border of Northumberland and North Tyneside, around 9 miles north of Newcastle and 30 miles north of Durham.

The closest station servicing this town is Cramlington railway station which lies on the East Coast Main Line and is managed by Northern. From this station there are hourly local services to Morpeth in the north, during peak times these continue to Chathill and travel to Hexham southbound.

The Manor Walks shopping centre is the main shopping complex in town and includes national retailers such as Argos, Asda, Boots, Next and Sainsburys. Recent refurbishments in the last decade have improved retail facilities, restaurants and cafes and a cinema in this retail centre.

Cramlington has historically always been a largely industrial zone and this spirit still lives on till today. In the north west of the town there is a sewage treatment plant, which employs several locals. Pharmaceutical companies such as Merck Sharp and Dohme have their factories near here. Other chemical companies including Boots, Aesica Pharmaceuticals and GE Oil & Gas also have large sites in this town.
