Cwmaman is a village near Aberdare in Mid Glamorgan, Wales. The river Aman runs through the village giving it its Welsh name “Aman Valley”.
The closest train station is in Fernhill and is located on the Aberdare branch of the Merthyr Line. Trains run northbound to Aberdare and southbound to Cardiff Central and Barry Island.
The village lies in the valley of several mountains making it the perfect location for outdoor pursuits. Dare Valley Country Park has expansive parkland with walks and trails, BikePark Wales offers several mountain biking and cycling adventures, and Clydach Reservoir also offers several walking and biking trails.
The town of Aberdare is approximately 3 miles from Cwmaman and lies around 20 miles northwest of Cardiff and 22 miles northeast of Swansea.
The local railway station is the terminus of the Merthyr Line and trains go directly to Cardiff Central.
Local sights include Aberdare Park, Cynon Valley Museum Trust and the Heritage Cottage.
The Coliseum Theatre is the local performing arts venue which includes a 600-seat auditorium and cinema. Its programme includes comedy, music, drama, light entertainment, and family events. The main shopping areas in town are Canon Street, Cardiff Road and Victoria Square which are home to a number of small shops, of which some are highly specialised. Other shopping streets include the pedestrianised Commercial Street and Market Street.
Education is provided by three secondary schools and one college, Coleg y Cymoedd.
