Dagenham is a town in the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham in East London. It lies around 11.5 miles east of Charing Cross.
Dagenham is well connected via public transport with 3 London Underground stations, all on the District Line, Dagenham Heathway, Dagenham East and Becontree. Dagenham Dock is the local railway stations which is on the London, Tilbury and Southend line. Trains services run between London Fenchurch Street and Grays. There are also a number of bus routes through Dagenham connecting it to other parts of London.
There are a number of open air spaces nearby such as Parsloes Park, Beam Parklands Country park and Eastbrookend Country Park which includes The Chase Nature Reserve.
Valence House is the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham’s local history museum and sits within its own parkland. The Roundhouse, a pub and music venue, was East London’s premier rock music venue in the 70s and bands such as Queen, Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton and Led Zeppelin used to perform here.
There are 3 shopping centres in Dagenham offering a wide variety of retailers, they are Heathway Shopping, Merrielands Retail Park and East Thames Plaza. The local high street is centred around Dagenham Heathway railway station and alongside local convenience stores there are hair & beauty salons, an electronic retailer, local bank branches, a butcher, charity shops and Dagenham Library.
