About Eastleigh, Hampshire

Eastleigh is a town in Hampshire in the South East of England, located between Southampton and Winchester.

The town has very good transport links, being located near to where the M3 and M27 motorway meet. The M3 runs from Sunbury-on-Thames to Southampton whilst the M27 runs between Cadnam and Portsmouth. Winchester, Bournemouth and Poole can also be easily reached via these roads.

Southampton airport is located in Eastleigh and offers regular scheduled and chartered flights to Europe and a number of domestic flights. The airport is probably best known for the first test flight of the Supermarine Spitfire, of which a two-thirds size sculpture greets travellers at the road entrance to the airport.

The airport is served by train and Southampton Airport Parkway is only a 5-minute train journey from Eastleigh. Eastleigh lies on the South Western Main Line from London Waterloo and runs services to Portsmouth Harbour via Hedge End and to Poole via Bournemouth. Another route is Salisbury to Romsey and there is a morning service to Brighton operated via Southern.

The town centre offers a number of well-known high street shops and eateries, as well as several independent stores including a street market on Thursday and Saturday. The Swan shopping centre also caters for everyone’s needs and is home to a cinema and bowling complex.

Eastleigh Museum is on the high street, where you can take a tour through Eastleigh’s past and find lots of interesting railway memorabilia and old maps of the area. Lakeside Country Park & Steam Railway is popular with families and a great place for walks and fishing, whilst Team-Sport Indoor Karting offers adrenaline filled fun.

The Point, located in the old town hall, is a contemporary performance space offering a diverse programme for the whole family year-round, including dance, comedy, theatre and music.

Other popular attractions nearby are Winchester Cathedral, Peppa Pig World at Paultons Park, Bursledon Brickworks, Itchen Valley Country Park, Go Ape Southampton and Cranbury Park, to name a few.

Some of the biggest local employers are insurance companies Aviva and Ageas Insurance Ltd, as well as B&Q Plc, who have their headquarter in nearby Chandlers Fort. Prysmian Cables & Systems Ltd are a cable manufacturer in town. Other big employers in Hampshire include Aspect Vision Holdings Ltd, National Air Traffic Services, Zurich Insurance Company and Newsquest.
