About Ferryhill, County Durham

Ferryhill is a small town in County Durham in the north-east of England. It lies around 7 miles east of Bishop Auckland, 8 miles south of Durham, 13 miles north of Darlington and 17 miles west of Hartlepool.

The closest railway station is in Bishop Auckland offering hourly services to Darlington, Middlesbrough and Saltburn. The train also stops at Teesside International Airport.

Ferryhill lies near the A1(M) connecting it to London and Edinburgh. The A167 runs through the town and leads to Durham and Newcastle in the north and to Darlington in the south.

There are a number of retailers in the town, most notably around North Street and Darlington Road and a weekly Friday market is held in the town centre marketplace. A number of community events take place each year such as the summer gala, Christmas market, vintage car rally, art and photography exhibitions and many more.

Education in Ferryhill is provided by four primary schools, one secondary school and a specialist Business and Enterprise College.
