Hackney is a London borough in Inner London, with its administrative headquarter in Mare Street, 5 miles north-east of Charing Cross. It is considered as being in East London.

Hackney is bound by Islington to the west, Haringey to the north, Waltham Forest to the north-east, Newham to the east, Tower Hamlets to the south-east and the City of London to the south-west.

There is currently only one London Underground station in Hackney, Manor House on the Piccadilly Line in Travelcard Zone 2/3. As part of the Crossrail 2 proposal there will be an underground station at Dalston with other potential future stations at Hackney Central and Hackney Wick.

There are however three London Overground lines that serve the borough. Stations include Stamford Hill, Stoke Newington, Clapton, Dalston Kingsland, Dalston Junction, Haggerston, Hoxton, Hackney Downs, Hackney Central, Hackney Wick, Homerton and London Fields.

Hackney has many local attractions and institutions such as the National Centre of Circus Arts, Geffrye Museum, Hackney Empire, Hackney City Farm, Rio Cinema, Shoreditch Town Hall, Abney Park Cemetery, to name a few.

The green spaces within Hackney include Clissold Park, Woodberry Reservoirs, Springfield Park, Hackney Marshes, Wick Woodland, Hackney Downs, London Fields and some smaller greens. Several venues of the 2012 London Olympics also fall within Hackney’s boundaries.
