Market Rasen is a market town in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire. It lies around 13 miles north-east of Lincoln, 18 miles east of Gainsborough, 14 miles west of Louth and 16 miles south-west of Grimsby.
The A46 runs through the town on the westerly side and connects it with Bath and Cleethorpes.
Market Rasen railway station lies on the Leicester to Grimsby line with trains operated by East Midlands Railways. Train services run to Grimsby Town and Leicester via Lincoln and Nottingham. There is also a service to and from Cleethorpes.
Market Rasen is most famous for its National Hunt racecourse, which stages a year-round programme of racing. The racecourse venue also plays host to meetings, conferences, exhibitions, weddings, music events and private parties.
The town’s main shopping area is along Queen Street. A local market is held every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, whilst every Tuesday there is also an auction of goods and produce. A farmers market is held on the first Tuesday of every month, and the Women’s Institute holds a country market every Friday.
Education is provided by the De Aston School, Market Rasen Church of England School, Middle Rasen School and Preschool, as well as schools at Osgodby, Faldingworth and Legsby.
The local economy is centred around the racecourse and many locals also commute to nearby towns and cities for work.
