About Northampton, Northamptonshire

Northampton is a market town in the East Midlands of England. It lies around 60 miles north-west of London and 50 miles south-east of Birmingham.

The M1 motorway passes Northampton from the west to the south and junctions 15, 15a and 16 serve the town, connecting it to London and Leeds. The A4 and A43 link Northampton with the surrounding area.

Northampton railway station is on the Northampton Loop of the West Coast Main Line with train services running to London Euston and Birmingham New Street and Crewe.

Birmingham Airport is around 39 miles north-west of Northampton and can be easily reached via the M1 and M6 as well as by train. East Midlands Airport and Luton Airport can also be accessed via the M1.

There are also a number of green spaces that are worth a visit such as Abington Park, Rookery Open Farm and Pitsford Reservoir to name a few.

The Billing Aquadrome leisure park is on the eastern outskirts and there are an additional four leisure centres across Northampton, as well as the Benham Sports Arena, King’s Park Tennis Centre, Delapre Public Golf Course and Radlands Plaza. Northampton also has many parks and open spaces such as Abington Park, the Racecourse, Becket’s Park, Victoria Park and Hunsbury Hill.

Northampton’s historic market square in the centre of town and offers a fresh farmers market every Monday and a general market from Tuesday to Saturday. The centre of Northampton offers a number of well-known High Street brands, as well as several independent boutiques and retailers. There are also a variety of cafes, bars and restaurants. Northampton is well-known for its shoemaking and to this day is still home to Barker Shoes, Church’s, Crockett & Jones, Edward Green, Tricker’s and Wildsmith.
