About Stafford, Staffordshire

Stafford is a market town in the county of Staffordshire in the West Midlands. It is around 15 miles away from Wolverhampton and Stoke-on-Trent, and 24 miles from Birmingham.

The M6 motorway runs past the town to the west with junctions 13 and 14 providing easy access to Birmingham and Manchester. The A34 runs through the town and connects Stafford with Stone, Stoke-on-Trent, Birmingham, Walsall and Wolverhampton.

Stafford railway station is on the junction of the Trent Valley Line and the Rugby-Birmingham-Stafford line. Southbound trains go to Birmingham New Street, London Euston, Bournemouth via Coventry and Reading and Bristol Temple Meads with some services also continuing to Paignton or Plymouth. Northbound trains go to Liverpool Lime Street, Crewe via Stone and Stoke and Manchester Piccadilly.

Some of the local landmarks include the Elizabethan Ancient High House in the centre of town, which is the largest timber framed town house in England, and which is now a museum, Stafford Castle, St Chad’s Church, which dates back to the 12th century and is the town’s oldest building, the Shire Hall Gallery and Shugborough Hall.

For anyone loving the outdoors Stafford is only a few miles of Cannock Chase, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with plenty of opportunities for walks and bike rides. The Wolseley Centre, a Wildlife Trust property, is set in 26 acres of grounds offering nature walks, wetland habitats, wildlife and sensory gardens as well as kid’s interactive trails.

Shopping needs are taken care of by the Guildhall Shopping Centre, the high street and a regular market in the centre of Stafford. The Queens shopping park outside of the town centre also offers a number of outlet stores.
