Stockport is a large town 7 miles south-east of Manchester city centre, in Greater Manchester.
The town is very well connected with the M60 Manchester orbital motorway and the A6 to London crossing here. Stockport’s railway station lies on the West Coast Main Line from Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston and is operated by Virgin Trains. Services to central London depart approximately every 20 minutes and there are inter-city services to Sheffield, Liverpool, Birmingham, Bristol and other cities.
Stockport has a rich architectural history and the borough is home to more than 380 listed buildings, a number of ancient monuments and its iconic Grade II listed viaduct. Some of its most notable attractions are Peel Hall in Heaton Moor and Bramall Hall in Bramall, as well as Staircase House and Stockport’s Air Raid Shelters. The borough also boasts several beautiful walks amongst 14 nature reserves including the first country park in England, Etherow Country Park, which has sailing, motor boating and angling facilities within the park.
Stockport town has also plenty on offer for shoppers, with the Merseyway Shopping Centre and The Peel Centre housing branches of most high-street shops. The Grand Central Stockport includes an Olympic-sized swimming pool, cinema and a number of food outlets. Parts of this area are currently under development and will include an office quarter for the town centre, a hotel and public space outside the railway station.
Stockport has a number of big employers and some 7 Stockport businesses made it onto the Greater Manchester Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 for 2018 list. The list showcases the region’s fastest-growing companies, which create job opportunities, prosperity and attract investment into the area.
