Sutton-in-Ashfield is a market town in Nottinghamshire and lies around 4 miles west of Mansfield and 12 miles north of Nottingham.
The town is well connected by road with the M1 motorway and Junction 28 just 2 miles away leading to London and Leeds. It can be accessed via the A38 whose bypass runs through most of the town to the east. The A38 runs from Bodmin in Cornwall to Mansfield.
Sutton Parkway railway station lies around 2 miles outside of town and is on the Robin Hood Line with trains running to Worksop and Nottingham.
The sundial in the middle of Portland Square was once the larges sundial in Europe and is a local landmark. The Sherwood Observatory is an amateur astronomical observatory located on the B6139 and is run by the Mansfield and Sutton Astronomical Society.
For outdoor lovers there is the Kings Mill reservoir which is home to the Mill Adventure Base which offers a range of adventure activities on land and water for children aged 11-19. The Kings Mill Reservoir is also a nature reserve as is Brierley Forest Park which holds the Green Flag Award.
The centre of town offers many shopping opportunities from well-known high street brands as well as independent retailers. The Idlewells Shopping Centre offers further retailers as well as an indoor market.
In 2020 Amazon created a new warehouse and distribution facility on the outskirts of Sutton-in-Ashfield with the promise to provide 1,000 local jobs. Further job opportunities can be found in nearby Mansfield and Nottingham.
