Swansea is a coastal city and county in Wales and is the second largest city in Wales. It lies within the historic county boundaries of Glamorgan and the ancient Welsh commote of Gŵyr on the south-west coast.

Junctions 44 to 47 of the M4 motorway pass by Swansea and together with the A48 it connects the town with Neath, Port Talbot and Cardiff, as well as Carmarthen.

The nearest international airport is Cardiff Airport which is about 40 minutes away by road or 70 minutes by rail.

A range of traffic-free cycle routes are accessible via parts of the Celtic Trail and the National Cycle Network. Whilst other routes go along the seafront and through the Clyne Valley Country Park.

Quadrant shopping centre and Oxford Street offer a range of well-known high street brands as well as independent shops, whilst Parc Tawe offers larger home and food stores.

Swansea University is a public research university with 8 colleges across its two campuses, located on the coastline of Swansea Bay. Its engineering department is recognised as a centre of excellence with pioneering work for solving engineering design problems, whilst its physics department is renowned for its research achievements in theoretical physics. Other departments including history, computer science and German have been awarded ‘excellent’ inspection ratings.

Whilst Swansea was originally the developed as the centre for metals and mining it is now home to other large employers such as Admiral Group, HSBC, Virgin Media, Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board, BT and Amazon.co.uk.
