Royal Tunbridge Wells is a town in Kent, England. Located around 30 miles southeast of London.
The town is very well connected by road with the A26 passing through, connecting it to Maidstone and Newhaven. The A264 connects it to Five Oaks and Pembury, whilst the A267 runs south from Tunbridge Wells to Hailsham and the A21 goes to London and Hastings.
London Gatwick Airport is approximately 24 miles west of Tunbridge Wells.
Tunbridge Wells railway station lies around 34miles from London Charing Cross and is on the Hastings line. It is operated by Southeastern, running regular services to London Charing Cross and Hastings. The average journey time to London Charing Cross is 64 minutes whilst a journey to Hastings takes on average 47 minutes.
Famous for the Chalybeate Spring, Tunbridge Wells has drawn visitors for more than 400 years. There are many more things to do and see, such as visits to the local stately homes and gardens like Sissinghurst Castle Gardens, Salomon Estate, Penshurst Place, Pashley Manor and Scotney Castle to name a few. There are several nature reserves in the area too, Broadwater Warren, Hargate Forest, Barnetts Woods and Birchden Wood. As well as The High Weald, an area of land between the North and South Downs, was named and area of outstanding natural beauty.
Tunbridge Wells is ideally located to provide a huge number of outdoor activities too. For example, the Bowles centre offers rock-climbing at Harrisons Rocks, 2 dry ski slopes, canoeing trips and more. Whilst Bewl Water, a large lake near Lamberhurst, offers sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, fly-fishing and a 21km cycle route around the reservoir. Bedgebury is home of 2,000 acres of forest with plenty of routes for cycling, mountain biking, horse riding, walking and ziplining through the trees.
The town is also perfect for anyone’s shopping needs, with a huge variety of well-known high street shops, independent and specialist shops. The main shopping areas are the High Street, The Pantiles and local shopping centre Royal Victoria Palace.
Tunbridge Wells has attracted several big employers over the years, such as Cripps, a large solicitor firm, AXA PPP Healthcare, Kent and Sussex Hospital and Tunbridge Wells Hospital. Other local employers are hotels, restaurants and retailers.
